Since 1.1.2009 Prof. José Manuel Simões has been a full-time professor at the University of Saint Joseph, published worldwide, and participated in conferences and academic committees on three continents. He started his career as a cultural journalist at the best sellers of Portuguese newspapers. He published eleven books (three academic books, two novels, two books related to music, and four biographies), made art performances, and videoart and photography exhibitions in different countries, directed videos, video clips, and documentaries. He has several academic papers published in England, Portugal, Japan, Thailand, Brazil, and Macau.

At the University of Saint Joseph, he's Associate Professor, Head of the Media, Arts & Technology Department, Coordinator for Communication and Media, teaching different subjects in the master's and bachelor's programs, a specialist in Creative Writing, Media Ethics, Multicultural Journalism, and Media Portuguese Speaking Countries Studies. His publications include "The Political and Economic Dependence of the Press in Macao under Portuguese and Chinese Rule: Continuity and Change" and "Multilingual freedom of the press in Macau". He published in international academic journals and media outlets, particularly Communication and Media and Ethnic minorities fields.

 

December 2022 he co-published three new books: “IE!! Intimacy with the music stars”, “My Macau, My Story (in Portuguese and Chinese)” and “Journalism and Quality at the Portuguese Speaking Countries (in Portuguese)”. He has a three articles contribution at the just released book “Peoples Cultures – In Portuguese – Speak, Live and Think at the XXI Century”.
