José Manuel Simões
PhD, Associate Professor, University of Saint Joseph Communication & Media Department Coordinator
Postdoc in Science of the Communication, at the Portuguese Catholic University, PhD in Global Studies at the University of Saint Joseph, a Master of Arts in Communication and Journalism at the Faculty of Letters of Coimbra University, a Bachelor Degree in International Journalism at Superior School of Journalism, Porto, Portugal, where he taught for several years.
Since 1.1.2009 Prof. José Manuel Simões has been full time professor at the University of Saint Joseph, published worldwide and participated in conferences and academic committees in three continents. Before he was a professor and a cultural journalist, he worked mainly on cultural themes at the best sellers of Portuguese newspapers. He published ten books (three academic books, two novels, one musical book and four biographies), made art performances, photography exhibitions in different countries, directed videos, video clips and documentaries. He has several academic papers published in England, Portugal, Japan, Thailand, Brazil, and Macau.
At the University of Saint Joseph, where he's Associate Professor and the Head of the Communication and Media department, he teaches different subjects at the master and bachelor programmes that he has coordinated since their beginning. He is a specialist in Creative Writing, Media Ethics, Multicultural Journalism and in Portuguese Speaking Countries. His most recent publications include "The Political and Economic Dependence of the Press in Macao under Portuguese and Chinese Rule: Continuity and Change" and "Multilingual freedom of the press in Macau". He published in international academic journals and media outlets, especially about Communication and Media and Ethnic minorities.
In May 2020 he will publish two new books that he coordinated and he’s author, titled “My Macau, My Story (in Portuguese and Chinese)” and “Journalism and Quality at the Portuguese Speaking Countries (in Portuguese)”.
